Snake

an exhibition of ceramics collages mobiles prints hangings and sculpture

by Alice Sielle & Sally McGill

Thursday 3 - Thursday 31 October 2013

"43 years after leaving school, Alice Sielle and Sally McGill met again and discovered they were both still making lino prints, which they had been taught to do when they were 11 years old, by their art teacher, Mary Dickie, at Francis Holland School.

The two artists planned to exhibit together, and were delighted to be given the chance to show at NSH Arts, where they have a room each and are sharing a third. Sally McGill is showing work based on drawings she made on her recent trip to India, in which Manasa, the Indian snake goddess figures strongly; and Alice Sielle is showing work about the Garden of Eden, which has always fascinated her.

In the third room they will each show work based on D.H. Lawrence’s poem, Snake, which they read at school.

NSH Art’s beautiful spaces and unique hanging system have led the artists to do completely new work and to use different materials for the first time."
